One of my best friends is having a baby very soon and I wanted to share one of my favorite projects from my baby’s room with her, a fabric baby wipes cover. I partnered with Huggies® and Walmart to share this easy tutorial that is great for sewing beginners and also share why we are a Huggies® family! This baby wipes cover makes a great gift for an expecting mom and is such a simple gift when paired with Huggies® Little Snugglers diapers. These two products together provide the best skin care you can give to a newborn and that’s why they are often a part of my baby shower gifts that I make for friends.
First you need to buy your Huggies® Little Snugglers and Huggies® Natural Care Wipes from Walmart. If you are doing this for a gift, the diapers I bought were only $8.96 and the wipes were $2.37 so this would be a great but cheap baby shower gift for anyone, especially those gender neutral baby showers. I always shop there for diapers and wipes because they have the biggest selection and of course, the best prices!
Now for the tutorial. We are basically making a HUGE scrunchie for our baby wipes box. If you grew up in the 90’s you know you still have one! 🙂
For this project you will also need:
- About 1/2 yard of cotton fabric
- Wide elastic (At least 23 inches)
- Thread
- Sewing Machine
- Embellishments (optional)
First you measure how long your elastic needs to be by wrapping it around the Huggies® wipes box. Pull it tight so that it will stay on the box. My elastic was about 23 inches once I cut it.
Next, measure your fabric that you are going to use. My fabric was cut to 30 inches long by 8 inches wide. This is because the box is about 4 inches tall and you need to double that. Your fabric needs to be a few inches longer than the elastic so that it will be completely covered.
Now, fold your fabric in half with the right sides facing each other to find the middle and then unfold. Pin the elastic to one side of the fabric as shown, lining up the edge of the elastic with one edge of the fabric.
**REMOVE THE PINS FROM THE ELASTIC BEFORE YOU SEW! I FORGOT TO DO THIS AND I REGRETTED IT 🙂
Refold the fabric with the right sides facing in and pin the edges together. You will sew the elastic into the first edge, sew around the top, and then leave the other edge of the fabric open. This will be where you will turn the wipes cover right side out.
Now turn the fabric right side out and grab the elastic from inside the cover and pull it out to the edge.
Place the elastic right on the edge, fold the raw edges of the fabric inside, and pin the elastic in place.
Stitch the elastic into place. I stitched about three rows so that it would not come loose.
Now take both ends of the cover and stitch them together. I did two zigzag rows to make it extra strong.
Now slip the cover on and adjust it.
If you want to, stitch a flower or some other fun embellishment on the front of the cover.
This wipes cover would be great on the changing table, bathroom, or everywhere you change a diaper.
This is such a simple way to create a customized gift for a friend and also give them some diapers too, the most useful gift of all! 🙂
Here are some other examples of diaper wipes covers I have made in the past.
Now why are we a Huggies® family?
The Little Snugglers Diapers:
have a GentleAbsorb Liner that provides a layer of protection between her skin and the mess,
have the umbilical cord cut-out which is great for newborns and my daughter who has a hernia,
and my favorite feature of all, the Wetness Indicator that lets me know when her diaper is wet.
The Natural Care Wipes:
are great if your baby has sensitive or irritated skin,
have TripleClean Layers so that they can handle any mess,
and have a super soft texture that is soft against the baby’s skin.
Walmart and Huggies® make it so easy to give a personalized baby shower gift at a great price. I always love getting a baby gift that has Huggies® products inside and this fabric wipes cover makes the gift extra special for a friend.

What a clever idea! I’ve been a mom and had wipes containers laying around for almost 7 years now and never thought to make a cover. So fun. I need to do this in my daughter’s nursery.
Hey Sarah! They make cute wipes boxes now but especially when I had my son, I wanted a box that wasn’t girly so I thought this up. It’s also one of those “self confidence building” sewing projects 🙂
So clever. Looks nice. Good gift.
Hey Carolyn! Thank you so much! It’s SOOOO easy!
This is the cutest idea! I would have never have thought of it. What a fun way to match nursery decor or bathroom decor with the wipes case. On a side note, I kind of miss scrunchies and can’t find an old one of mine anywhere! #client
Hey Courtney! Yeah I have a mint colored scrunchie that I use every day when I get ready and I would be sad if I lost it! 🙂
