My mom gave me a bunch of fun things to re-purpose or fix up and this little set of drawers was one of them. It had some drawers in it but I took them out. I wanted to use it as an organizer in my bathroom for my makeup and jewelry that I wear every day. I decided to try out a new Ikat pattern on this little guy.
This was the BEFORE:
I started by painting the inside a fun orange color and I painted the outside a vintage white color. I did LOTS of coats on the inside before it finally looked good.
Now for the ikat pattern. I practice on my paper first but basically I would paint a small circle and then pull the paint up and down all around the circle’s edges. You have to work quickly before the paint starts to dry.
Okay now for the real deal. I painted one side at a time and would paint the circles quickly and then went back and pulled the paint up and down with my brush to create the circle ikat shape.
I repeated this pattern on all four sides. I only did one coat because I painted it on very thick. If you do several coats you will lose the messy imperfect look. Don’t be surprised if you see this pattern show up again on some other DIY project because I LOVE it! This little organizer could hold all of our K cups, silverware for a party, or whatever else I need it for.
