DIY Dreamcatcher: Urban Outfitters Knock Off

One of my favorite websites to look at for decorating inspiration is Urban Outfitters.  Their carefree, hippie style makes me happy 🙂  I saw this Dreamcatcher the other day on their site and LOVED it but didn’t want to spend $100. I went to Hobby Lobby and got an embroidery hoop, some fun ribbon and yarn, and made my own.  It turned out great and only cost me about $20.  I used an old doily my mom gave me as the circle web so that was FREE!

This was the doily before I put it in the hoop.   It was about 14 inches and worked great for the 12 inch hoop.

I put the doily in the hoop and started pulling to make it as tight as possible.  Then I trimmed off the edges of the doily all the way around the hoop.
Next I flipped it over to the front and glued some little pom pom yarn around the edge of the hoop twice to cover the hoop.
I cut all of the yarn, ribbon, and lace to about 20 inches long.  I positioned everything the way I wanted it before I started gluing.
Then I made some little tassels and tied them to a piece of jute for a little extra.  I might be adding more tassels later because they are so cute 🙂

Flip the hoop over to the back and glue all of the pieces on, starting with the ribbons you want to be in the front when it’s done.

Trim all of the ribbon so that you can’t see it from the front and then glue a piece of extra ribbon over the raw edges.
All done!  Now hang it up to keep all of the bad dreams away 🙂
