DIY Tiny Hanging Planter Tutorial using an Upcycled POM juice bottle from the Child at Heart blog

I LOVE plants and have a special weak spot for hanging plants.  When I was decorating my daughter’s room, I wanted a gallery wall with some fun little elements that weren’t just framed pictures of her.   I didn’t want to spend any money on a planter so I figured out a way to turn my tiny POM juice bottle into a really cute DIY tiny hanging planter for the wall.  It was a very easy project and I’ve had so many people ask me how to do it so here are my little tricks to make one yourself.

First clean out the POM bottle.  I am using the 16 oz. smaller bottle for this project.

Then you need to remove the words from the bottle.  Soak a q-tip in nail polish remover and then just rub off all of the letters and rinse the bottle again.  You can see here how I already started to remove the words.

Then I got my very sharp scissors and cut the bottom portion off of the bottle.  This will be my tiny planter.  I took it outside and sprayed some spray paint on it to prime it for painting.  Then I painted a few coats of a really fun rose gold metallic paint.

Once that is dry, just add some soil and your small plant.  I then made a very simple knot hanger for the planter with some yarn.  Check out how I do that here>>

Or check out this image BELOW for how I made another hanger before:  You basically loop 4 long pieces of yarn, tie a knot at the top, and then knot each piece of yarn to the next piece of yarn all the way around.  Then repeat one more time  a couple of inches down and then knot all of the strings together at the bottom.

Add it to your gallery wall or just fill a little empty space with a cheerful plant.  Don’t y’all love projects that don’t cost a thing?  🙂
