This year I decided that instead of sifting through thousands of Pinterest images of Halloween costume ideas to share, I would just ask my friends, family, and readers to send me their best ideas! Wow you really are SO creative and I’m so excited at the list of DIY costumes I have put together.
I included a few of my family’s costumes at the bottom with tutorials attached but most of these pictures won’t have tutorials…just great inspiration for this Halloween’s trick-or-treating fun!
Up first is my sister-in-law Tara and her super creative costumes…she LOVES Halloween more than anyone I know and always goes all out!
This costume is great for a couple and especially for the guy that doesn’t really want to dress up…a.k.a. every man in my life! 🙂
Obsessed with this Little Mermaid costume she made. That seashell t-shirt and headband are the best and I’m pretty sure she made these green sequin tights!
Next is my friend Jacinda from college…this family takes dressing up VERY seriously and dresses up even when it’s not Halloween! Follow her Instagram for some really fun international activities and food ideas for kids.
Here are some of their best family outfits from the past few years:
This NASA costume idea with the DIY shuttle is a great way to carry the little one around and still be dressed up as a family!
I love how authentic her Mary Poppins costume is!
This little guy’s aunt works for Southwest so this little box-turned-airplane costume was bound to happen at some point. 🙂
Ok not everyone has access to a real Southwest flight attendant uniform but I bet you could try to copy it with a navy blazer and skirt and get VERY close.
This was taken at Disney World and I feel like they told me that people were stopping them to take pictures and thought they were characters working in the park. That’s when you know you have a GREAT costume!
My blogger friend Colleen of Lemon Thistle sent me one of their family costume ideas and it’s SO great! She sewed this jacket and it’s so Deville-icious!
The next two pictures are of my nephew. This costume is SO easy and I bet you have most of what you need already. Those eyebrows are hilarious!
For this DIY scarecrow costume, you just need an old hat, some overalls, and some raffia or straw and you are DONE!
The next few pictures are from my friend Rachel who always comes up with really fun group costumes for her four kids. In this picture each kid represents a different season!
I love these costumes…she said they were a BIG hit!
This Thomas the Train costume idea is another great example of how you can make a box into just about anything you want it to be!
Now for some of our family’s DIY costume ideas from the past…if there is a link you can click through to see the full tutorial:

This was me and one of my besties from school when I taught Kindergarten. We just sewed tubes of felt fabric with straps to tie, glued the black felt, and made those hats out of paper wrapped in coordinating felt.
