Easy DIY Indian Costume Idea: Child at Heart blog

I am one of those adults that LOVES an opportunity to dress up.  Last year for Halloween, I wanted a simple costume for trick or treating made with mostly stuff I already had.  I looked at my tribal leggings and thought “Indian!”  Most of the Indian costumes I saw on Pinterest were extremely revealing and that doesn’t work for me!  I love how this is modest but still really fun.  It was perfect for that cool fall night in west Texas 🙂

**I’m gathering my friends favorite DIY costumes they have made themselves and would LOVE for you to share yours with me.  Just email me at deonnawade@gmail.com with a picture of your costume and a few sentences about how it was made.  It might be shared on my next Halloween blog post 🙂

All you need is:

  • tribal patterned tights
  • mocassins or some short suede boots
  • matching tunic top
  • leather headband or leather chord
  • feathers from the craft store
  • t-shirt yarn for the necklace (here is how I made it)
  • some craft paint for your face
  • turquoise or beaded jewelry

Here are some close up pics of my costume:

The necklace was my FAVORITE part of the costume.  I made it with some t-shirt yarn from Lion Brand (got it at Walmart.)  Click here to see my video tutorial of how to make the fringe necklace.

For the head dress, I bought some leather chord from the craft store, braided it together, and glued a few white feathers to the side.  I used some coral craft paint for my “war paint” and it washed off really easy when the night was over.

These moccasins were from my super cool New Mexico great aunt.  🙂  Suede boots would look great too!
