Use Chalk Markers to Update a White Frame: Child at Heart

A few weeks ago I shared my mantle ikat canvas art and I had a large white frame from Target on the mantle too.  I thought it was so great I went out and bought another one.  I wanted to do something fun with this one so I tried two different ideas:  chalk markers and copper paint.

Now my first idea was the chalk markers because I can just write on the glass and when I want to change the look, wipe it off.  I had so much fun the other day playing with the markers on the glass of the frame.

**A tip when using the chalk markers:  It can get on your mat or your white frame’s edge.  Remove the glass from the frame before you draw and when you clean it.  I just used water or a little glass cleaner and a paper towel to clean the glass when I wanted to change my design.

Here are some of my temporary doodles I came up with:

Okay now for my second easy idea:  Copper Paint!

I decided to flip the frame’s mat over so I could still have my white frame and mat if I wanted it later.  I used the “aztec pattern” I shared in my video about painting ikat patterns as inspiration.  I just started in the middle with one long stroke with the copper paint and a wide, flat brush.  I then made two shorter strokes on each side of that.  I continued until I had a “stair step” effect on the bottom.  I repeated the process on the top too and was all done.

This was SUPER easy and I love how it looks on my son’s toy chest.

I didn’t create any printables this time because I just opened up my Etsy shop only this time I am supporting a missionary that is very dear to me and my husband’s family.  Several talented artists donated printables for me to sell and you can check them out here!

Okay now for the fun part!  I challenged some of my blogging friends to come up with their own take on the frame from Target and here is what they came up with 🙂  Some are even giving away the printables you see with the frame!
