I had really been wanting to try a great sewing tutorial and my neighbor was having a baby so I decided to try the “rag quilt” since I have never made a quilt before.  My first try was not a success because I clipped into all of the stitches causing holes so I got some different fabric and started again.  The next quilt was a SUCCESS and I can’t wait to give it to her.  Click here for the tutorial from “The Complete Guide to Imperfect Homemaking.”

Here are some pictures of my quilt.  The only thing I can say is “DO NOT CUT TOO FAR IN!”  I used some scissors that weren’t that great with the first quilt but I borrowed some Fons and Porter scissors and they were amazing.  They have a short blade and are perfect for this.

This was the first try.  I really thought the fabric was great and this was a charm pack.  I did a flannel back on this one which is super easy.  I think I’m going to cut this one up and make some burp rags for her too.  This quilt was also very very small so I learned for the next quilt.

My final quilt all done.  I thought it was so fun.  My X’s on each square weren’t perfect so I need to learn a trick to make them better next time.  These squares were about 8 or 9 inches wide.

The owls are so fun!

The back

Fold it up with some ribbon and you are done!

This was her quilt from the tutorial (very cute)  I love the pillow too!:
