Tomato Rolls Recipe
There are some traditions that are just a given at my house on Thanksgiving:
We always watch the parade.  
We always play loud, embarrassing games.  
And, my Mom ALWAYS make tomato rolls.  
She is known for this recipe and people ask for it for every big holiday.  She can make them in her sleep now and I wanted to share this beloved recipe with my readers.  They take time and love but trust me, it’s worth it.  They are my favorite roll in the world and lots of people agree.  Make sure you eat some hot out of the oven with butter.  Those are the best!
2 pkg. yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm water
1/2 cup water
1 cup warm tomato juice
5 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp salt
1/4 cup Crisco
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
Soften yeast in lukewarm water.  Set aside.  Mix remaining water and tomato juice.  Add sugar, salt and Crisco.  Add 2 cups flour and mix.  Add eggs and softened yeast.  Beat well.  Add flour to make soft dough.  Knead on floured board until smooth.  Place in greased bowl–let rise until doubled (about 2 hours).  Punch down.  Roll out and cut with biscuit cutter.  Let rise until doubled (45 minutes).  Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
